Solid performance

Romain Guillaume started off well. During the swim, he was always in front. Romain left T1 in 5th position at 30” of the French leader Belaubre and 18” behind Frodeno and Molinari. After 10km on the bike, Romain moved up to the second place. The strong Italian cyclist Molinari rode an amazing bike leg and ran out of T2 with a 4’38” lead on Romain Guillaume and 5’ on Jan Frodeno. After 4km on the run, Frodeno passed Romain Guillaume. After 12km, another strong runner, named Sebastian Kienle, passed Romain Guillaume. Kienle who left T2 in 5th position moved up to the 3rd place with an impressive run. Romain Guillaume finished 4th after a solid performance.

Pretty happy

Romain Guillaume is clearly satisfied with his result: “I am pretty happy about this race, because I was tired the last couple of weeks. I didn’t expect this kind of race. In the beginning of the swim I was able to follow Frodeno and Belaubre. I was with the first group. That was perfect for me. On the bike, I tried to break away, but Molinari was very strong, he was flying. I was 4 minutes behind at the end of the bike and Frodeno was 1minute behind me. On the run, my technique was good, but my legs were really tired. I did my best to keep the 2nd place and then the 3rd place, in the last loop - 3km before the finish line - Sebastian Kienle passed me and I couldn’t follow him. He was very fast and I was tired. It is a good start after a difficult period. I hope to be even better in two weeks in the Ironman70.3 in Aix-en-Provence.”
