Liz Blatchford finished 2nd in Ironman 70.3 Vietnam

Liz Blatchford of the Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team came second in yesterday's Ironman 70.3 Vietnam.

Very hot and humid

Another great result for Liz Blatchford yesterday in IM70.3 Vietnam. Liz finished 2nd in very hot and humid conditions. Caroline Steffen won the race in 4:21:40. Liz finished 2' later in 4:23:48 (splits 26:10 - 2:23:06 - 1:30:42). Dimity-Lee Duke came third.

Liz continues her fantastic season, with a victory in IM70.3 Geelong and now a third 2nd place at the half distance in 2015 already!
Liz Blatchford looked back at a tough day in the office: "Another 2nd place!! Well I gave it everything today and really went for the win but it was not to be.
I lead the swim with Caroline Steffan close behind. Throughout the bike we shared the lead and were never out of site of one another.
Onto the run and I set out conservatively as it was some crazy hot and humid conditions. I ran with Caroline until around 7km. I was feeling good and made a move and built a sizeable lead. Probably out to 1-2 minutes at one point. At around 14km, things began to slow down. My legs felt good, but I just couldn't keep my core temperature down. All of a sudden things went downhill very quickly. By 16km I'd blown to bits, and lost my lead. When Caroline came flying past there was nothing I could do but just try and get myself home. Those last few kilometres were absolutely brutal!
I had a crack and it didn't pay off but I'm glad to have tried.

These two races (Busselton last week) couldn't have been any more different. A temperature difference of 40 degrees!! The back to back racing aimed to build some strength for upcoming Ironman in Cairns in just over a month."
