Helle was not going to be denied today. She came out of the water in 2nd position, just 10" behind fastest swimmer Sara Mc Larty (USA). Her Uplace-BMC teammate Liz Blatchford followed in 11th position as part of a chasing group trailing Mc Larty by 1 minute. On the bike, Helle went on to take the lead in the early stages to get accompanied by Jodie Swallow and Alicia Kaye. A fierce bike leg saw the leading trio entering T2 together. The run offered an exciting finale. But Helle had brought her running legs, managing to pull away to a comfortable lead of more than 1' to take a convincing win. Her Uplace-BMC teammate Liz Blatchford finished 11th.
Helle Frederiksen was obviously overjoyed with her win: “What an incredible feeling, to win this race and join Laura Bennet, Emma Snowsill, Emma Moffat and Lisa Norden as the only past winners of this race, is just mind blowing for me. I knew coming into this race I could perform to this level. This past block of training has been very rewarding."
Helle managed to divide her race well: "To win required me to race hard and take advantage of the quality within the field on the swim and on the bike. To exit the water so close to Sara Mc Larty set me up for the win, it was decisive and allowed me to put pressure so early on the others. I love the big fields, the quality start lists; this is what brings out the best in me. I am now going to enjoy this the next 48 hours and then focus on doing what I can to win another championship next weekend".
