Helle Frederiksen 1st in Ironman 70.3 Texas; Corinne Abraham 4th in Half Challenge Fuerteventura

It ended up being another successful weekend for the Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team with an outstanding victory and a solid top 5 performance. This brings the 2015 total already to 5 wins and 10 podium finishes for the Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team.

Today, Helle Frederiksen (DEN:4:07:52) of the Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team won Ironman 70.3 Texas with an impressive lead of almost 6 minutes. The Latin American Champion Ironman 70.3 made the difference with a strong bike performance and an impressive run. Angela Naeth (CAN: 4:13:50) came second, while Emma-Kate Lidbury (GBR: 4:17:58) finished third.

Yesterday, her team mate Corinne Abraham came 4th in Challenge Fuerteventura. Daniela Ryf (SUI: 4:20:33), the runner-up of the Ironman World Championship 2014, was outstanding from start to finish. Anja Beranek (GER: 4:33:08) came second and Eimear Mullan (IRL: 4:36:03) completed the podium. Corinne Abraham (GBR: 4:36:49) finished 4th and missed the podium by less than a minute.

Helle Frederiksen wins Ironman 70.3 Texas

2nd impressive win in 1 month

Helle Frederiksen had a strong swim, leaving the water (1,9km: 25:47) in 2nd position 41” behind Lauren Brandon (USA). After 40km on the bike, Helle took the lead from Lauren Brandon. They closely stuck together until T2 (90km: 2:19:49). But Helle Frederiksen brought her running legs today. She won with a comfortable lead of 5’58” on Neath and 10’06” on Lidbury (21km: 1:19:39). Clocking up her second impressive win in the same month.

Very happy with the result

Helle Frederiksen was clearly satisfied after a strong race: ” It is always amazing to win. I had a great day today. Today, I wanted to test a lot of things, the swim was great, I came second out of the water 30” behind Lauren Brandon, who is an amazing swimmer. So that was fine. On the bike I put the hammer down for the first 45km, so I could see how much I could hurt myself. The last 40km, I released the gas a bit. I was pretty confident, I was leading at that point, so if there was another girl that would overtake me, I would be able to sit in or to go with her and run away from her. Coming into T2 I only had a 50” lead over Emma. My plan was to try to run really hard. It is always great running in the finish area and having another Ironman 70.3 victory. My next race will be Ironman 70.3 Boulder in 7 weeks.

Corinne Abraham 4th in Challenge Fuerteventura

Close to the podium

Corinne Abraham left the water in 9th position (1,9km: 30:58) 6'08" behind leader Catherine Jameson and 5'51" behind Daniela Ryf. Daniela Ryf passed Catherine Jameson in the beginning of the bike leg to stay in front until the finish. In the meantime, Corinne was - due to a solid bike leg - moving up to the 6th place when she entered T2 (90km: 2:41:12), 53" behind the 4th place. With a solid run (21km: 1:18:43), she managed to finish 4th less than one minute behind the 3rd place.

Confirmation of my conditional progress

Corinne Abraham had mixed emotions with her 4th place in Fuerteventura: “It could have been better today. I am disappointed with my swim. I already felt improvements in the pool; unfortunately this is not yet the case in race conditions. I felt good on the bike. I am quite pleased about the progress I made since Tenerife on the bike and on the run. I am a bit disappointed that I missed the podium today due to my swim, but I am on the right track for my next race (Ironman Texas), where I hope to show my swim progress in race conditions.”
